Biography
American soprano Erica Petrocelli — "the vocal standout" in the eyes of The New York Times — is one of opera's most compelling rising voices.
She returns to Los Angeles Opera as Musetta in La bohème, while upcoming engagements include Marguerite in Faust at Opera Western Reserve, a concert with the Utah Symphony at the Deer Valley Music Festival, and the cover of Micaëla in Carmen at the Metropolitan Opera.
Next season she makes her Metropolitan Opera debut as Karolka in Jenůfa, and returns to LA Opera as Contessa Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro.
Her recent opera credits include Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte and Donna Clara in Zemlinsky's Der Zwerg, both at LA Opera with James Conlon; Micaëla and Pamina in Die Zauberflöte with Opera Theatre of St. Louis; Pamina with the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra; Donna Anna in Don Giovanni with Sarasota Opera; the title role in Madama Butterfly with the Colorado Springs Symphony; and the title role in Martinů's Julietta with Bard SummerScape Festival.
Ms. Petrocelli has appeared in concert as soprano soloist in Mozart's Requiem with James Conlon at both the Cincinnati May Festival and St. Louis Symphony, Mahler's Symphony No. 2 with the Florida Orchestra, Mahler's Symphony No. 4 with the Aspen Music Festival, Fauré's Requiem with the Mostly Mozart Festival in San Diego, Strauss' Vier letzte Lieder with the Peoria Symphony, and a concert of Puccini favorites with the Sarasota Opera.
While in the International Opera Studio at Opernhaus Zürich, Ms. Petrocelli sang Zerlina in Don Giovanni, covered the title role in Arabella, and Stella in Les contes d'Hoffmann. As a Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist at LA Opera, she sang Musetta, First Lady in Die Zauberflöte, Mrs. Naidoo in Philip Glass' Satyagraha conducted by Grant Gershon, Annina in La traviata, and Eurydice in the world premiere of Aucoin's Eurydice.
